Build the exit lane first
Move vehicles, bikes, and daily-use items out of the work path. Keep the garage door, interior door, and driveway route open. A usable exit lane makes every later decision easier and gives a removal crew room to work.
Use four zones, not twenty categories
Keep one area for items staying in the garage, one for items moving elsewhere, one for ordinary removal, and one for paint, fuel, batteries, chemicals, or unknown containers. Fine-grained organizing can wait until the volume is under control.
Set a decision limit
If an item needs research, put it in a small review bin. When that bin is full, stop creating exceptions and finish the current shelf. This keeps a few uncertain objects from taking over the day.
Prepare the removal zone
Empty drawers, close boxes, separate sharp pieces, and list bulky items. Photograph the finished removal pile from two angles so a provider can understand volume and access.
| Decision zone | What goes there |
|---|---|
| Keep | Items staying in the garage |
| Relocate | Items moving to another room or property |
| Remove | Ordinary unwanted household items |
| Special handling | Paint, fuel, batteries, chemicals, and unknown containers |
For job-specific scope, review garage cleanouts or prepare the details needed for an estimate conversation.
